The Jumper That Stole The Show

Some garments become memorable for reasons that have very little to do with fashion.
In 1957, Elvis Presley appeared in Jailhouse Rock, a film that would help cement his reputation as one of the defining figures of the decade.
There was the music, of course. The dancing. The unmistakable attitude (and wiggle).
But there was also the wardrobe.
Among the clothing worn by Elvis was a distinctive collared jumper, a style that perfectly captured the changing face of men's leisurewear during the 1950s.
And it provided the inspiration for one of our own designs.

MEET THE EVERETT

Our Everett jumper takes its inspiration from that wonderfully distinctive period of menswear.
The 1950s saw a shift towards clothing that was more relaxed, but no less considered. Knitwear was increasingly worn as a statement in its own right, rather than simply as another layer beneath a jacket.
Collared jumpers offered something particularly appealing. They had the ease and comfort of knitwear, with just enough structure to feel a little smarter.
That's what we wanted to capture with the Everett.
A jumper with character, a distinctive silhouette and a design that feels just as relevant today as it did nearly seventy years ago.
Made in England, it's our interpretation of a genuine mid-century classic.

MORE THAN A PIECE OF FILM HISTORY

Of course, you don't need to be an Elvis enthusiast to appreciate a good jumper.
What makes the Everett particularly versatile is that balance between casual and smart.
Its collar gives it a little more presence than a conventional crew neck, while the knitted construction keeps it comfortable and easy to wear.
It works particularly well with traditional high-waisted trousers, but it's equally at home as part of a more relaxed everyday wardrobe.
And that's precisely the point.
We've never been interested in making clothing that belongs exclusively in the past. The inspiration may be historical, but the intention is always to create something that can be worn and enjoyed today.

How We'd Wear It

WITH THE MELBOURNE TROUSERS
For a smarter combination, pair the Everett with our Melbourne wool trousers.
The Melbourne's traditional tailoring complements the jumper's mid-century character without making the outfit feel overly formal.

WITH THE CRESWELL
For something a little bolder, the fawn wool Creswell trousers provide a lovely contrast in colour and texture.
A combination that draws on classic British menswear, but doesn't need a special occasion.

A CLASSIC WORTH REDISCOVERING
Nearly seventy years after Jailhouse Rock, the appeal of a well-designed collared jumper hasn't diminished.
The Everett is our way of celebrating that particular chapter of menswear history, while making something for the wardrobes of today.
Designed with history in mind. Made in England. Ready to be worn.
