Building A Wardrobe

A good wardrobe isn't built around dozens of pieces. It's built around the right ones.
And few things change the character of an outfit quite as much as the trousers.
From traditional British wool and everyday cords to something a little smarter, we've picked four very different pairs from the Stanley Biggs collection, and where we'd wear them.
THE CRESWELL

The distinctive one.
Cut from fawn wool, the Creswell brings a little more character without becoming difficult to wear.
Pair it with navy, cream, green or mustard knitwear, add a shirt when something smarter is called for, or simply wear it with boots and a rollneck.
It's one of those trousers that does far more than you initially expect it to.
THE MELBOURNE
The smart choice.
For occasions when denim or cords aren't quite enough.
The Melbourne sits comfortably at the smarter end of the Stanley Biggs wardrobe, but that doesn't mean keeping it for best. Pair it with knitwear, a shirt or one of our polos and let the rest of the outfit do the talking.

THE BOLINGBROKE

The everyday pair.
Corduroy earns its place in an autumn wardrobe for good reason.
Hard-wearing, comfortable and wonderfully easy to combine with wool knitwear, shirts and boots, the Bolingbroke is the pair we'd reach for when there's no particular plan for the day.
THE TATTERSALL

For something different.
A little more character for those who don't want every pair of trousers in the wardrobe to play it safe.
The Tattersall works particularly well when everything else is kept simple. A plain shirt, proper wool jumper and a good pair of boots are really all it needs.

BUILD THE OUTFIT
We've picked a few of our favourite combinations from across the Stanley Biggs collection, whether you're dressing for the everyday, something a little smarter, or simply heading out for the weekend.
The warmer tone of the Creswell works particularly well against the Gibson, giving you an easy combination with plenty of texture without feeling overly put together.
A little smarter
Pair the Melbourne with The Stanley for a simple combination that can be dressed up or down. Add a shirt underneath when the occasion calls for it, or keep things more relaxed with the V-neck worn on its own.
For the everyday
Corduroy and a Henley are difficult to get wrong. Comfortable, practical and ideal for those days when there's no particular plan other than getting out of the house.
Let the trousers do the talking
The Tattersall already brings plenty of character, so we'd keep everything else straightforward. The Wallis gives you the wool and texture without competing with the trousers.
